PML-N ministers making contradictory statements on Punjab, KP elections

LAHORE: Amid the ongoing debate on the Supreme Court verdict for holding general elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces and the PML-N leaders are making contradictory statements on the polls issue.

Federal Minister for Planning Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqba said on Friday that if general elections would be held according to old census then new polls would have to be held after four months.

Talking to media at Narowal, he said that it would be better if waited for a while, adding that Imran Khan himself had said that general elections should be held under new census.
He further said that now country could not afford political instability.

Ahsan Iqbal said that PML-N was not escaping from polls, adding that it would be better if elections held at once.

He said, “Holding of elections again and again puts burden on national kitty.”
He further said that PML-N had started preparation for elections.

Election under fragile economic condition to further weaken country: Javed Latif

Meanwhile, Federal Minister Mian Javed Latif on Friday said that Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) was ready to participate in the elections but the country could not afford to go to polls under the current fragile economic situation.

Talking to a private news channel, Javed Latif said the PML(N) had sacrificed everything for the supremacy of the Constitution & law and would continue to work for the betterment of the country.

On the question of PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif’s return, he said that Nawaz faced political victimization while serving the country with sincerity. “Nawaz Sharif will come back and get Pakistan out of this turmoil situation,” he added.

Imran’s policies caused ‘economic instability’

Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) leader Danyal Chaudhry has slammed Imran Khan, saying the PTI chief was responsible to push the country into the ‘mess of high inflation, unemployment and economic instability’.

Talking to a private news channel, Danyal said that to ensure the country’s survival, Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) ousted the PTI from power through a no-confidence motion.

In response to a question about today’s worst economic situation, he replied: “We took a bitter sip to rescue the sinking boat for the sake of serving the nation, and we will not let Imran play with the country’s integrity again.”
