A 10-year-old male giraffe died at the Lahore Zoo on Friday, reportedly due to “blood infection”, announced zoo director Muddasir Hasan.
As per the director, the giraffe was “under treatment for blood-related illness”. Although the animal has been buried, the cause of death could be confirmed after the autopsy of the wild animal that will be released in the next two days.
It is pertinent to note that there was only one pair of giraffes in the zoo and after the death of the animal that was aged 10 years, only a female giraffe has been left.
This giraffe, along with two female companions, was procured by the Lahore zoo in 2018, but one of the female giraffes died soon after her arrival.
Consequently, the contractor procured another giraffe as a replacement but she too died during the quarantine period.
As both deaths had occurred during the quarantine period, the dealer was bound to provide another animal to the zoo, but he has not made any deliveries so far.
